I, too, have a Labatt Challenge boat, and it didn't come with running backstays. I just replaced my mast with a mast from Selden. I had a choice of a smaller mast section with running backstays and a babystay, or a heavier mast section without running backs. Selden no longer makes the same mast section that came with my boat. They said I didn't need a babystay, but I had one installed anyway, to help with bending the mast in heavy air. What hull number is your boat? If it's between Graham's and mine, you probably don't need one, as we both probably have the same mast section.
