Full disclosure – I am a Yacht Broker…

Hopefully, your Agreement of Sale is the standard YBAA form and your broker has
added a few “extra” conditions beyond a survey. I always include an optional
mechanical survey so that should you need to really dig into the engine, you
can. Also as Joe indicated, a rigging inspection/survey should also be called
out if desired.

The reason for these additional “call-outs” is that there is always the
potential for at least some disassembly (taking out injectors to view) and
without the wording, the seller and their broker can legitimately refuse.

The good things about the YBAA agreement is that you are not committed until
you sign an Acceptance of Vessel. Until it is signed, you can walk away and
get your deposit back (less any costs that you are responsible for and haven’t
paid such as the haul-out for the survey).

If I can help in anyway, drop me a note off-line

You will need a rigger and a diesel mechanic for a thorough survey. For a
quick engine check, make sure the engine starts and runs normally and the oil
is just oil, no coolant mixed in.

Specific to a Landfall 38, you might want to crawl back by the fuel tank and
make sure there is no diesel seeping out of it.

Well Congrats you should be fine

Moisture meter and tapping will check core. But usually need a marine mechanic
if you want real engine inspection. My surveyor claimed “not my job” on engine
and Real rigging inspection
