As long as you keep the clear coat on, and protected, you should be good. My
pole peeled a little, and I got some clear coat, but never got around to
re-Applying it. I don’t think it will normally peel, unless it is nicked, then
it starts. If you touch it up right away, you can nip it in the bud. They say
a good polymer on the clear coat, like ReJex will do a good job of protecting
the clear coat, while the clear coat protects the epoxy in the carbon fiber.

My neighbor has a clear-coat carbon fiber spar on his J-160, and I don’t think
it has been touched since 1997.

Or, if you want to baby it, I have seen some guys in the fleet put a little
cloth bag under the boom, and store it there.

Listers; I recently acquired a carbon fiber whisker pole; 12-22ft X 3.5 in;
(Defender sale); I am looking for advice on how to protect the pole from UV
rays; I have seen some photos of the pole deployed on deck with a sunbrella
fabric cover; is this the best way? Any better ideas? Are these covers
commercially available or should I have one custom made? Many thanks in
advance;

I agree, that is what I use for most of my thru hulls as well.
Sirco has a husky vinyl hose with a green spiral reinforcing.

When replacing the original ribbed hose or even drain hose I use the reinforced
clear vinyl beverage hose. It’s strong, flexible enough and will be easier to
source too.
