The deck is a different thickness and layup so by themselves numbers of 100-150 are just as irrelevant. Now if the entire deck read 100-150 with NO peaks around deck penetrations then that would be consoling information. Then again if the wide open flat portions consistently read 100 but the penetrations or a single penetration read 150 that would be a different story. The user of the meter is looking to establish a "normal" reading and then looking for deviations. Normal can change based on the part of the boat being inspected (hull VS deck, cored VS not cored, above the waterline VS below, bottom painted VS not). There really is a bit of art to it which is why I am hesitant to place too much emphasis on the results without any other details.
