Following up on some earlier notes: 1) your 1980 36 probably has the same track
as my 1978 34, and, if so, Garhauer knows how to machine for this track (no
extra cost as I recall); 2) my cars came with the E-Z Glide system (which Rick
described), which in my case had ball bearings, not plastic; 3) it is not that
difficult to get ball bearing cars onto the track, but you need to follow
Garhauer’s instructions and be careful (you basically slide the car from
Garhauer’s plastic track onto your boat track – if you screw up the alignment,
ball bearings go all over the place); 4) Bill is correct that the ball bearing
system on the Garhauer is not designed to operate nearly as smoothly as Harken;
and 5) as a result, it is not uncommon for us to use a winch to move the car
forward or backward under load. Of course, there’s a lot more load on my 42
than there was on my 34.

Garhauer has cars for both 1” and 1 ¼” standard T track. If you have the old
Merriman H track (as I did on my 38) the will machine the car and build it with
bearings appropriate for the track dimensions.

I use them on my c&c 35 mk 1 without any complaint. I have raced on other
boats with Harken and they work great. The question as always is price.

My only comment is that the Garhauer track for the jib cars seems to be
different than other track sizes so make sure you get the garhauer track with
the cars.

I used Garhauer because Guido adapted the cars to the old track on my C&C 34.
The cars were sufficiently robust to use them on my 42 Custom, so I kept them
when I moved up (same old track). Two issues: 1) the cars do not roll as well
as Harken (and possibly other brands), so if this issue is paramount, you may
want to look at other brands; and 2) some brand name cars are big enough to
accept a second sheet (temporarily). My Garhauer cars are not, which is
another downside. Perhaps this has been remedied in newer designs?

Looking to add adjustable jib cars. Anybody used Garhauer or interested in
other recommendations.

Thx
