I have Garhauer line adjustable cars on both my 25 and my 38. Guido made the
cars for the 38 to fit the old Merriman H track that was OEM, but the car
also fit the new T track I installed when one of the H tracks got bent while
fixing a leak in the deck. Modification was no charge. And the Garhauer
system (2 cars, track ends, and the blocks and swivel cam cleat arrangement
for the aft end of the track) totaled about 40% of the cost of a single
Harken car.

Frankly, I've never had problem with adjusting the cars. Pressure on the
genoa sheet pushes the car back when trimming, and the 6:1 lead on the tow
line is more than enough to pull the car forward against the sheet load.

Garhauer makes two style of cars. The ones I have are spring loaded swivel
cars that accommodate one sheet. I chose these because I have roller reefing
headsail and that car has the ability to flex over a wide range of sheet
leads without binding or chafing the sheet. So I can run the car all the way
to the front of the track when the headsail is reefed to 90 or 100% without
anything binding up.

If you have a luff tape and change headsails instead of reefing, and have
dedicated sheets for each headsail, Garhauer offers a double width car where
the block on the car "flops" from side to side instead of swiveling.

I used Garhauer because Guido adapted the cars to the old track on my C&C
34. The cars were sufficiently robust to use them on my 42 Custom, so I
kept them when I moved up (same old track). Two issues: 1) the cars do not
roll as well as Harken (and possibly other brands), so if this issue is
paramount, you may want to look at other brands; and 2) some brand name cars
are big enough to accept a second sheet (temporarily). My Garhauer cars are
not, which is another downside. Perhaps this has been remedied in newer
designs?

Looking to add adjustable jib cars. Anybody used Garhauer or interested in
other recommendations.

Thx
