That would be a bad idea. A 170 would be made out of light cloth and would be 
ruined in heavy air. Also you can only roll in so far and have a decent sail.
IMHO for cruising most of our boats, a furling jib in the 130%-140% range and 
an asym chute are a good combo.
Besides for that, between paying for a recut and the sacrificial sun cover, you 
will be in for a lot of money for a very suboptimal sail.

My 73 C&C 30 mk1 came with a 170 also. I thought it might be possible to have 
it cut when I get the furling hardware. It is a handful to fold on the deck and 
get back into the bag.
