I just got done painting one side of my mast, I used to use PPG Concept, the
fellow at the paint store (this is a car paint store, BTW) recommended Matrix.
It is a little confusing, it is all under the umbrella of Sherman Williams,
but on the can it sais AIC, (Advanced Industrial Coatings.) This stuff is
tougher than nails. Only 75 bucks for a gallon, but the hardener and reducer is
another story. Concept had gotten over a few hundred a gallon. Simple mix, 1
part Hardener, 2 parts reducer, and 8 parts Paint. I love the White – ok, it’s
white, but it looks great. I sprayed the boom, which went nicely, but I
painted the mast outside, and didn’t want to deal with compressors and hoses
and such, so I used a brush. For the most part, it looks glossy and sprayed. I
started out with slow reducer and hardener, but then bought extra slow
hardener. I wouldn’t mind extra super slow hardener, but a little less breeze,
or a cooler day would help immensely. Have pix of the Can and color formula if
needed.

Number on the can is K1-5469864 A

One other thing – forget about the roll and tip, if you are working horizontal.
Maybe even vertical – I threw away the roller, and used some 16 oz dispensers,
like a mustard dispenser. (available in a six-pack, at Scam’s Club) Just
stream a ziz-zag along in front of the brush, MUCH faster and nicer.

Subject: Stus-List Mast paint

I am getting to repaint the mast on my 1988 LF39. Does anyone on here have a
clue what paint C&C uses on their spars? The local chandlery suggested Interlux
Brightside, not knowing what is currently on there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
