Bruce,

The last time I replaced the halyards and sheets on my 38, I went with 7/16ths
XLE from Cajun Trading. As I recall, the strength and stretch were both better
than Sta-Set but not quite as good as Sta-Set-X. But the hand of the rope is a
whole lot better. And the price is very reasonable.

I’ve just replaced the genoa and main halyards and sheets with XLE, but used a
high-tech floating line for the spin sheets and halyards, based on the
recommendation of my (now retired) sailmaker after a sheet went over the side
and got tangled in the prop shaft.

I’m a club reformed club racer who still does a couple of charity regattas a
year and essentially is a cruiser. If you are a serious racer, the criteria for
selecting lines might be different for you.

I'm hoping Chuck or others can chime in on this - At Cajun Ropes, they show the
XLE for halyards, and have a reasonable price for the halyards pre-made. How
does the XLE compare with New England Ropes Sta-Set X as far as elongation and
the feel is concerned?
