G10 is a great replacement for wooden backer boards. It doesn't even have to be G10 specifically. McMaster-Carr has a wide variety of FRP pieces in various sizes. Since your situation is already partially encapsulated with fiberglass you might just remove the fasteners and old wood. Then inject thickened epoxy, allow to cure, drill out the holes and then reinstall the fasteners.
