Subject: Stus-List Fitting and facing a new coupler

Hi

We are in the process of replacing our old Yanmar 3GMD motor with a Beta. The
old coupler doesn't match the beta and besides it is old. We are looking at a
split shaft coupler from Beta.

We are getting mixed information as to whether the shaft needs to come out of
the boat and the new coupler mated to the shaft, or fitted and faced I guess
are the terms.

As far as I know the shaft is not bent. It is a bit pitted where it goes into
the coupler although the mechanic said we could just shine it up.

We plan to put a flexible shaft coupler in between the split shaft coupler and
the back of the transmission.

Any advice on the right steps?

Thanks
