Gary, I've been main sail shopping for my Hylas 44. Better sailcloth pays off in the long run. I would not buy a base cross-cut sail. I ended up with a triradial main from Bacon Sails made with a high quality cloth from Bainbridge. It was 1/2 the price of a similar sail from North. If I had the money I would have gotten a HydraNet radial.
A larger gennie will help you a little in light air, but will be a bear if the wind picks up. It depends where you sail, how important an extra tenth of a knot is to you etc. Good luck!
