I did the Smart Plug conversion, several years ago, when it first came on the market. The contacts are much larger; the plug snaps into the receptacle and the cap locks the plug in place. The conversion is easy and takes very little time. On my boat, there was an inspection port near the Marinco inlet that made conversion easy. When I removed the Marinco inlet, I noticed burn marks on the connector, telling me that I probably wasn't too far off from having a fire on board.
