Discussion on tiller vs. wheel are a bit like Windows vs. Apple. This has more to do with personal preferences than with logic. However, if you find it difficult to single-hand from behind the wheel, try steering from in front of it. This works especially well if you have an autopilot. It works quite well. I would suggest trying it before you remove the pedestal.

Chuck, I'm not totally married to the tiller idea but find the wheel a real nuisance when trying to get to the sheets. I do have an Autohelm 3000 that came with the boat so maybe that could help. David, I do have the emergency tiller for the boat but it looks like a big vertical crank with a square drive on the end. I can't imagine trying to steer with it for any length of time. Thanks everyone for the ideas and input! Rod
