Hi, Tom — I would seriously consider replacing both the cable and the antenna. This probably won’t mean much to most of those on the list, but as we sail in the same area…
After I replaced the antenna and put in low-loss cable, I tried a radio-check call from Port Superior to a friend who was out sailing in the islands. He came back and asked me if I was sailing near him, as he was out past the north end of Madeline Island; he said I was coming in much more clearly than other boats around him. He couldn’t believe I was over sixteen miles away, and behind a tall hill (just north of the marina) and the entire long axis of Madeline Island. So the cable and antenna WILL make a huge difference. BTW, I hope the spinnaker pole is working out well for you. — Fred Fred Street -- Minneapolis S/V Oceanis (1979 C&C Landfall 38) -- Bayfield, WI > On Sep 8, 2016, at 10:37 AM, Tom Lynch via CnC-List <cnc-list@cnc-list.com> > wrote: > > I'm also considering a VHF upgrade.
