Thanks Chris. Good to know rot is not a concern. The stanchion bends are subtle and not creased so a vice should be able to straighten.
RE: vertical cracks on stanchion bases. I'll check this too as you recommend, although I'm having trouble picturing this without being on the boat with the stanchions in front of me. I'm sure I'll it will become clearer when at the boat.
