After rain recently I noticed a little rust-colored water leaking out from behind my chainplate on the port bulkhead on the interior. The chainplates themselves look shiny and new, but I'm afraid some water ingress has rusted some of the bolts through the bulkhead.
I resealed where both chainplates protrude from the deck to stop any water from coming in, but I think it's time to really inspect (and possibly re-do) both chainplates. My mast is removed, and the boat is covered. I'm thinking I'm going to remove some bolts and see what's going on inside the bulkheads behind the chainplates… see if there's any rot in there. I assume these bulkheads on my 1976 30 MKI are marine ply covered in fiberglass. Has anyone does this before on a 30MK I? Any suggestions/anything I should know before I embark on this project? Thanks in advance.
