The throttle and shift cables on my 38, plus a shift cable I helped replace
on another boat, were stocked parts at my local NAPA store - though I do
have to say that this particular store does a lot of business in boat engine
parts. Even if it is not in stock, an auto parts store can usually get the
part from a local warehouse overnight.

Just take the cable out and take it to the store to have it matched.

And it wasn't a particularly difficult or time consuming job on my 38. It
took longer to figure out how to get the cables disconnected from the
throttle and shift levers, and to get the sheaths disconnected from the
tubes that house the cables, than it did to remove and replace the cables
(mine is an older style pedestal with throttle and shift levers in a housing
aft of the compass bowl, and the cables running down 2 stainless tubes
instead of down through the pedestal).

I know it is a long shot, but does anyone know what the right part is to
replace the red shifter cable on a 1978 C&C27, equipped with the factory
Yanmar?
I gather that the cable is a semi standard part, from previous comments on
similar situations, but I will have to remove it to get exact measurements
and that looks like a lot of dissassembly, and then wait for the part to be
ordered in.
