Sounds like a setup for a very long list of things to fix to do it right. I'd be extremely weary of the engine among other things..
It would certainly take a very extensive survey..
Beautiful boat, but many things on it tend to be big and pricey..
That long out of commission, I would not pay a dime over 45K it sounds like it could take an easy additional 25 - 30K + a lot of work to make it right..
How's the:
- Bottom
-deck finish
- topsides finish
- engine controls
-batteries / chargers
- Anchor / ground tackle / fenders
- Standing rigging corroded?
- upholstery
- rudder / controls
- transmission / shaft / stuffing box / cutlass bearing
- through hulls
- instruments
- plumbing / pumps
- window leaks / hatches
- halyards / sheaves / running rigging / blocks -- on a boat that size you'll spend 1000's on running rigging and halyards + more on blocks if the torlon bearings are dried-up and crumbling which they likely are..
- water heater
- wiring / electrical
- etc, etc
Just a quick sampling, most of those items don't look too bad, you know: 80-450 bucks a piece, but when you end-up with 90 - 125 items on the list, it adds up in a big hurry.. Ask me how I know
But then again, you could probably shake hands on one that's mostly done for 75-80K.
I'd definitely consider passing. That's a tough one..
