Years back we brought a Kirby 25 in here from Toronto to campaign.....it
had a tiller with a Ronstan extension....where the extension fitted on
to the tiller there was some 'duct tape'......it wasn't until season 3
that I decided to see what was under the 'duct tape' .....in other
words, why was it there in the first place? Didn't seem to be needed.
Well, guess what.....the 'duct tape' was the only thing holding the
Ronstan tiller extension to the plastic base bolted through the tiller.
What a surprise! We had participated in about 70 races with the
tiller extension used all the time like this.

Several weeks ago a J30 broke its tiller at the windward mark, causing
havoc for the rest of the fleet. Fortunately, he was doing his usual
sloppy rounding and everyone managed to go between him and the mark as
he did 360s while out of control. Don't be that idiot!
