Hi Chuck, I Typically close all seacocks before leaving the boat for the week. For me, it's a simple all or nothing deal and I have a placard (3 X 5 sheet of paper :-) ) I put on the sink cover (1st thing you see coming in the cabin) that says "All seacocks shut".
Since I do it almost every time, I have a habit of always double checking the water intake before starting the engine for the 1st time. While I'm there I typically shine the flashlight around the engine compartment looking for anything obviously suspicious like high bilge water / fluid leaks / coolant reservoir level / occasional oil check / stuff like that. -Francois 1990 34+ "Take Five" Lake Lanier, Georgia
