Yes they do power up with the same switch.

Danny,

Does both the pilot and the network receive power off the same switch?

On Calypso, I have a B&G pilot/network driving a Whitlock drive through large
extra relays to prevent the higher current from wearing out the smaller B&G
relays.

If I supply power to the B&G control/pilot before the Whitlock drive relays
have power, the pilot will not sense the drive system as available and issue a
warning and not function.

My power up process now includes turning on the drive first then the B&G
pilot/network and all is well. It took me several days of trial and error to
fully understand why sometimes all was well and other times the system would
not function.

Right, I have power run to the bus, power run to the computer as well. it just
seems the pilot is not talking to the network or maybe not getting power out to
the motor....

I installed the X5 last summer with a P70 control head.

The single SeaTalkNG connection to the P70 is required and sufficient to make
the
unit work. At a minimum you will need:

1) Power to the Course Computer. It will not power up from the SeaTalkNG bus.
2) A SeaTalkNG connection to the P70
3) Connecting the fluxgate compass to the Course Computer
4) Connect the Wheel Drive to the Course Computer
5) Power to the SeaTalkNG bus.

Note on #5 - this will mean that the SeaTalkNG cable from the Course Computer
and from the the P70 will need to go into a SeaTalkNG connector, such as the
STNG 5-WAY starter kit P/N T70134, and power supplied to the connector
( A06064 ) with a power cable ( A06049 ).
