The conclusion after many pages is that a tether should be very stretchy, like 7mm dynamic climbing rope. If you hit even half the breaking strength of most gear with zero stretch your body would be mush. There is also much information about soft shackles and splicing dyneema in general. I would recommend it as a great read for anyone interested in safety.
