You must be able to unfasten the shackle on your harness with one hand while suspended off the ground with your full weight on it. That is not an optional requirement. Something with a lanyard pull for release is desirable, as you may be trying to open it with either one or two broken arms. I would also strongly advise against any non-secure "spring clip" carabiners, as they have a very bad habit of catching and snapping onto shrouds or other lines when they get dragged across. That could happen at a very bad moment.
