Yours may be like mine with a 4, 5 or 6 to one block/tackle setup attached 
to/thru a single block which has a wire thru it arranged so that the entire  
setup ends up doubling the purchase of the line alone. The wire and part of the 
remaining tackle attach to points at the forward end of the boom. Hard to 
explain but if you disconnect it, leaving a messenger line behind, you can lay 
it out on deck and figure it out. Mine is rigged so that I have 8 or maybe a 
10:1 out haul purchase so no winch is involved.

Originally this 'doubler' was used on my main sheet and gave 24:1 when used. 
When I found a 24:1 main sheet arrangement from Harken, I rigged the doubler to 
add purchase to the out haul.
