Frederick , I need to rebuild my electromechanical linear drive for about $600 with Raymarine. What would be the approximate cost of the hydraulic drive be?

I’ve got a 1979 Landfall 38, hull number 009. I currently have a Simrad WP30cx wheelpilot on my boat, but would love to put a below-deck pilot in. The biggest issue on the LF38 is the crowded nature of the area below the cockpit sole; there’s no way to put a recommended tiller arm on the rudder shaft for the linear drive to attach to, so you need to attach directly to the quadrant, as Rich mentioned. I like his idea of mounting the drive fore-to-aft on the port quarterberth bulkhead; or you could mount it athwartship on the starboard side, and have good access to the drive that way. Either way, you might want to strengthen the quadrant by bolting some sort of plate on it for the drive attachment point, like this: http://www.ericsonyachts.org/infoexchange/attachment.php?attachmentid=3959&d=1209760668 I’ve been installing and selling Raymarine autopilots for quite a while, and I like the new EVO series of course computers; but the Raymarine mechanical linear drives aren’t particularly reliable, so I’ve been spec’ing the Octopus 1212LAM12 hydraulic linear drive as a replacement; only three moving parts, and very strong and reliable.
