I’m with Dennis.  A properly installed fixed depth transducer is really no 
different from drilling a hole and then glassing it up again.  And although 
I’ve rarely seen a plastic transducer fail, I still tend to put in the somewhat 
more expensive bronze ones if there’s a choice.  Those suckers aren’t going to 
snap off under any reasonable load.
