The boat looks to be a work in progress. Depending on its usage it might be
a reasonable value. For racing it would need too many changes, as might a
future for longer off shore runs.

I see from the photos that the SS such as the binnacle guards and pushpit
are pitted. The halyard winches are questionable. Only two halyards? No
symmetrical spin gear? The conversion to a bow roller moved the starboard chock
back
and cut out a section of the toe rail, left sharp. Not sure if the bow plate
was removed,
leaving a question of where the jib tacks to. And so on. Hard to evaluate the
quality
of work from the photos.

A boat in worn but solid condition needing mostly everything can be a good deal,
as can be a fully professionally refitted model. The work in progress boats may
end
up both costing too much to be a bargain, and still require too much to be
affordable.

There was some discussion on the list about the 30-1 last fall. Someone in
Canada was considering buying one, as I recall. The general opinion seemed
to be that they held their value really well, though the prices discussed -
and the asking prices on Yachtworld - seemed fairly high to me.

$14,500 for the boat described might be a fair price.

$2500 was really good price for your boat. But you can't count slip rentals,
maintenance, haulouts, storage, etc toward the value. Those ongoing costs
are just the price of having a boat. Count only your capital expenses for
additions or replacement of gear to the boat.

In the last 10-12 months, 2 30-1s have sold in the area where I keep my 25.
A boat I would classify as fair to average (sailable, needed sails and
replacement of instruments, but otherwise sound)sold for $6500, and one that
was in great shape (well, it could have benefitted from a paint job) sold
for about $10,500.

Like they say, a boat is worth exactly as much as a buyer is willing to pay
for it.

I don't know what sort of portlights you have on your boat - aluminum frame
or glued in with Plexus. 81 was about the time they changed the style of the
portlights. But I would not be particularly worried about going offshore
with either style of portlight so long as it was properly bedded and made of
good material. I know of a couple of 38s with aluminum windows that have
circumnavigated with no  problems, and at least one LF38 has been back and
forth across the Atlantic with glued in windows. Integrety of the portlights
would not be my first concern.

I also wonder about the need to upsize the rigging. When I had to replace
the "tree trunk" of a mast and the rigging on my 25, using a a Kenyon spar,
following an accidental dismasting I found that the OEM rigging used by C&C
was two sizes larger than the wire recommended by Kenyon for their mast on
my sized boat. Can't swear that the 30-1 was speced as strongly as the 25-1,
but I would be willing to bet that it was.

Looks like he was setting the boat up for off shore use. The boat is already
a very stiff boat. The 3/8 rigging is all good but the plexi glass cabin
lights, would be the weakness' for the design for off shore use.
I have Hin # ZCC30675M81E
This is a 1981 C&C30 MK1 and I can say it is a very stout boat, But I'm not
sure I would embark in a trip to Bermuda from Charleston without first
addressing the windows. I would also change the companion way door with a
thicker door. The wind vain and the upgraded rigging tell's me we went off
shore or was planning to go offshore otherwise it would be overkill on a
coastal cruiser.
I paid $2,500. For my 30 MK1 and I have put about $9,00 including 2 years of
dock rental. So, Good price for this guy. I'm impressed...
Gives me hope if I ever go to sell mine
Cheers ,Curt
