Hi Dwight, You probably already know this. I recently learned the trick to do the 28's is to remove the drum to remove four allen head screws to remove the whole winch from the base. Brought them home and I work on them where it's warm.
Reading the Barient maintenance article on Stu's website I learned ". . . the drum can be used as a holder for the inverted gear housing. Insert the stem of the gear housing into the top of the drum." How sweet is that? It's so nice to have the winches home, in a controlled environment where nothing can get lost overboard.
