Many of us work in IT, Steve. I have always had the list go to its own
folder. That means nothing in terms of how well the list itself works,
or fails. Some of us, who have been on this list for a very long time,
prefer that the list stay on topic, even if the topic is a little loose
around the edges. The consensus seems to be that hosting a robotics
project within this list is not appropriate. Several other venues that
would work better for ALL concerned have been suggested. I'll add one
more. There are thousands of abandoned usenet groups. Just take over a
dead one in the alt.binaries hierarchy. It may have an odd name, but
that doesn't really matter as long as those participating know what it
is. You can then converse in threads, post photos and videos, and do
pretty much whatever you wish without bothering anyone.

Email filters.
I work in IT and I hear this stuff about "flooding my inbox" all the
time and it's a simple matter of using email filters. If anyone needs
some guidance on how to set that up I'm happy to help. I have 2,669
*UNREAD* messages in my "C&C" folder and they don't interfere with a
thing. Anything that hits my inbox (email from family and friends) I
get notifications for on my phone etc, but not the C&C list. The way I
have it set up I have to click into the folder to see what's going on,
so I can ignore the list for days if I'm busy. You can ignore the
email you're not interested in very easily and not have to resort to
telling people to shut up. Not all of us have sailed for 40 years, or
had fathers, family or friends that introduced us to sailing. Maybe
you take for granted how much you learned throughout your sailing
career simply by "osmosis", from your community. Not all of us are so
lucky so we rely on the internet. This list is the sailing community I
didn't have growing up. Many thanks to those that contribute, I've
learned a lot on this list.
