Ah yeah, new transducer, pull the new wire through, no arguments.

Paul, I agree, that's not a big deal, but Francois was going to put new transducers in and re-use the wiring from the old transducers. That's two splices in shielded cable, versus none. I'd go with new wire that comes from the transducer all the way to the head end, no point in introducing two major failure points in delicate wiring on a boat.

I've re-used transducers on a number of different head units, just
a case of figuring your pin-outs and splicing accordingly. There
are a bunch of wiring diagrams on Airmar's website, it's not
exactly rocket science. The most difficult part is sourcing a
plug that fits, I have sometimes had to make my own plugs as
well. If you have the luxury of new then by all means go for it.

What Jim said is true. While the Airmar transducer may be the
same for Raymarine and B&G the difference may be in the wiring. For example what the yellow wire may do for one instrument it may
be different for the other. If push came to shove, you probably
could figure it out and make a conversion.

When I recently put new instruments on Fury, I discovered that
the new transducers were smaller diameter than the old ones. Thus to make the conversion I would have to have the boat hauled
and the through hull holes made smaller. Fortunately, I was
able to use the old transducers as the wiring was the same.

The short answer is that transducers are finicky about their
wiring. I would go with all new.

    Good morning all.

My latest project is possibly upgrading my old ST50+ instruments
to new B&G Triton Displays and establish a proper NMEA 2000
backbone / network to complement the new Zeus Touch 7 chart
    plotter I bought last fall.

Do you guys know is I can re-use the existing transducer wiring
and just upgrade the transducers themselves and take advantage of
the wire runs to great simplify the install on the new stuff?

    Thanks in advance.
