Come to think of it, my boat doesn't have a number on the plate - and it is not a metal plate, more like a thick decal - 1980.

My 25 has the same situation you illustrate. The HIM is 25225, but the C&C
metal plate in the cockpit is 250225. That caused a lot of problems when I
changed the title over from the Pennsylvania title (which was based on the
information in the Maryland title I got from the PO) to the North Carolina
title I have now.

It just looks like C&C used a 4 digit hull number on the metal plate,
instead of the 3 digits in the HIN.

I am trying to ensure that my paperwork is in order. And of course I noticed
a discrepancy in the serial number in different documents. So I thought I
would go to the source, namely the boat. However, the boat does not seem to
agree with itself. According to the hull, the boat's serial number is
390600773. According to the C&C plate in the cockpit however the serial
number is 39006074.

Looking back through the documentation I have going way back to 1974, I have
some documents that list one number, while others list the other.

Anyone have any ideas?
