If there is a J24 boat in your fleet then after the race step off teh 30
and go visit for cocktails. First pop onside to check out the galley.
then ask if you can use the head. Then if it is cold ask the J24 crew
to come inside the 24 to socialize ...

There are other small light boats that are even more frustrating when
the wind is light. Just concentrate on sailing against the other
racer/cruisers and pay attention to how you do compared to those boats.
We sail teh C&C115 on Wednesday night in a fleet that includes a handful
of Farr 30, a Viper 830 and a couple other sport boats. I judge our
effort against teh bene 367, J42, C&C 115, J35, J109 and other keel
boats rather than against the sport boats. The 115 also has a lot more
comforts for after the race esp when raining or cold. As do the J42,
bene 367, J109 etc ...

I agree with Dwight. However if you have J24s in your class it is
frustrating to see them plane downwind in a breeze as you do less than 7
knots. PHRF does not take that into account.

The C&C 30 MKI is fine for racing. It is especially good going
to weather in winds above 15 apparent. Make the bottom clean and get a
good sail inventory, new sails made specifically for your boat help a
lot. Theoretically PHRF or let's just say handicap racing is supposed
to give every boat in the fleet a fair shot. You should be very
competitive racing against boats with a similar speed potential to yours
and especially in heavier winds. You may have more difficulty if the
fleet is not divided according to speed potentials because large spatial
separations will likely develop and consequently conditions can vary
more between where the slower and faster boats are sailing on the
course. Once the boat is "race ready" then it's up to you and your
crew, learn the rules of racing well and try to keep her moving forward
in clean air...learning how to make the boat go fast will be more
difficult than equipping the boat for racing...so the onus is more on
the humans than it is on the boat...don't let your design become an
"excuse for losing", the 30 MKI is a proven performer and most of us
here know that.

Does the C&C30MK1 have the abilities to be a competitive club
racer given all the new boats joining the field? What can be done to
make it be more competitive? anybody want to share? The boat is new to
me "well" a couple of years now but I think I would like to race a
little but don't want to race a boat that cant win.

Thanks for your help. Any advise would be great.
