Steve - I've been a member of the Valiant lists longer than I've been on the C&C lists, as I was going to get a V40 before the dot-com crash left my portfolio worth less than my pickup truck. When Sailnet went off-line they moved to Yahoo Groups, and it's a pretty active list. (I was rather surprised that I was invited to join, given that my sense of humor can get a little over the top, and I was much worse then.)

I'll ask if anyone knows that boat, but it doesn't ring a bell in my head. (Other than the normal bells that ring constantly.)

Initial thoughts are that for that price you're going to get a project boat. Heck, I've thought that if I had to fire sale Stella Blue that would be the sale price, and V40's do tend to have double the value of an LF38. (Heck, you could strip the engine, electronics and spare parts from this boat and make 30K, then tow the hull off shore and set it on fire.)

Note that it's a Uniflite boat. The earliest Uniflite boats weren't built using the infamous fire-retardant resin, which created the infamous Valiant hull/deck blister problem, but most of them were. Note that everyone who has ever owned a Valiant blister boat has sailed successfully for years without a problem, and it seems to be cosmetic. If I could have picked one up for 30K 12 years ago, I would have. The most common structural complaints by older Valiant owners are leaking around the chainplates and keel/hull separation, which are basic boat problems and have nothing to do with the design or manufacture.
