You can feel bad, but the law is that you have to pay the sales tax (as you do on cars) every time the item (boat, car) changes hands. The only difference is that it is up to you to pay it (the onus is on you). If you did not pay at the time of the transaction, you can feel lucky that you did not have to come up with the cash at that time.
You were not singled out; we all paid the tax. You might be better off in Alberta (I don't think they charge the sales tax on boats), but the season is shorter. Marek
