David, The rope is stretching over the entire 100 foot -plus length. Halyard tension should be adjusted during a race - less downwind, more upwind. You would need to check the sheaves to see if they were changed. Rope compatible sheaves are more V shaped. Rope is more of a DIY project unless you have the tools. You still the need the rope tail. Dyneema is lighter than wire, but I doubt you would notice the difference on a 12,000 boat.
