Another tip which I forgot to include -
In rough weather, I switch from an inflatable PFD to a jacket
style one made of thick foam such as worn by jet skiers. It offers
a lot of rib protection. If you fall overboard (or even on board)
it increases your survival options if you don't have a lot of
broken ribs added to your other issues.
