Just information...I have used a GPS module (for my computer
"chartplotter") and my hand-held Garmin GPS sitting on the table in the main
cabin of my
boat with no loss of signal.

Did you get the Standard Horizon GX 1700? I am looking at that unit and am
trying to find out if it can be connected to an external GPS antenna as I
am told the internal antena may not work if the unit is installed below
decks

I recently bought a new VHF radio for my 1974 30 Mk I that incorporates a
GPS.

The old one is located over the ice box. I need to bring a cable from the
stern mounted GPS to the new unit but find the power and antenna cables on
the old one are brought up between the cabin top and inner liner where
there is virtually no clearance to bring a new cable.

Has anyone worked this problem through. I would rather not re-locate the
VHF.

Thanks in advance.

Martin
