Directions say to inspect for holes and then pour water in up to the brim. If the water stays them you know it works. The screen is covered with a hydrophobic coating which causes the surface tension of water to prevent it from passing through the screen. Don't get smart and try pressurizing it, you will overcome the surface tension and push water through the screen.
