I've definitely ruled that out and yes, the stern section is bone dry. Also water tanks were never filled and all thru hulls appear perfectly sealed. This water accumulates after a day on the can, without running the engine or sailing. Erik Hillenmeyer C&C 35 MKIII, Slapshot Chicago, IL

You said the stern section was dry which would indicate it’s not the stuffing box but just saying in case. Sometimes a stuffing box will take time in the water to swell after long winter storage. I know him well and trust him that he doesn't recall a grouding either. I know I haven't grounded it in the week I've had it in the water...
