Our community dock is nice, but only about 2-3 feet deep. If my boat could fit
in the community marina I would be paying $200/yr. We do have Antares, a red
C&C 35 MK II, moored off our beach and the owner keeps his dinghy in a
community slip. I would love to have my boat so close to home for "free", but
the location is horribly exposed all the way across the Bay to weather from the
northwest. I am always amazed that boat has not washed up on the beach yet.

My marina is at the southern end of the island on this map on the eastern side.
If you go about 4,000 feet north along the shore to where you see the houses
come down to the beach, that is where Antares moors.
I have a mooring too up here:

Note the photo is old, we have built a pier and a clubhouse there. We just got
water and electricity to the pier this spring too to run our lift :)

We have three in our neighborhood -- used by those of us who can't afford
waterfront property!

Monty,

no, as you come up the creek its on the branch on the left. Its a partially
built house. Turns out the county is limiting the number of bed and bathrooms
due to the septic system. I'll look to see the one you are talking about.
Community pier!

Joel,

Is the house across the creek from Whitehall Marina? I live in Amberley and
keep my boat at the community pier just down creek from the lift I think you
are referring to.

I'd be very careful to make sure the lift is rated for your

That's one hell of a lift..............

The guys in Texas (and others) use Hydro lifts to get their boats almost out of
the water all the time. The J-80 I raced on for a couple of years had this when
he was in Texas. Doesn't seem to be a problem - it would be like having your
boat in a travel lift.

Look at Annapolis Yacht Club's yard. There are plenty of dry sailed boats
there. The only difference is they are on trailers which support the keel and
yours would be just hanging there, but with a bunch of big bolts..... and the
dry sailed boats are hoisted in and out every week. We dry sailed the J-80 for
two years - out and in every week with a crane and a single strap. Going to do
the same with a J-24 this year.

I'm looking at a house with a dock and a lift big enough to handle my boat. It
would not get the entire keel out of the water, but could certainly get the
hull out.

any issues dry-sailing a keelboat? Should I sell the lift and keep the boat
wet?
