The guys in Texas (and others) use Hydro lifts to get their boats almost out of the water all the time. The J-80 I raced on for a couple of years had this when he was in Texas . Doesn't seem to be a problem - it would be like having your boat in a travel lift. Look at Annapolis Yacht Club's yard. There are plenty of dry sailed boats there. The only difference is they are on trailers which support the keel and yours would be just hanging there, but with a bunch of big bolts..... and the dry sailed boats are hoisted in and out every week. We dry sailed the J-80 for two years - out and in every week with a crane and a single strap. Going to do the same with a J-24 this year.
