Send me your mailing address off list and I will mail you one of the 5x8 sections of fiberglass that I saved when I put larger access panels into the cockpit side of my transom. Its only about ¼ thick, but it does have Smoke White gelcoat on one side. When I redid the outside of the transom, I relocated the stern light using a new fixture and an LED bulb purchased from Dr. LED. I put a layer of glass on the inside of the old hole and filled and faired with thickened epoxy. Might that not be easier than scarfing in a section of glass? I already replaced the bulbs in my teardrop nav lights with red and green LEDs made for that purpose. I forget what those are a type 60 or type 90 bulb but they were not commonly available. My current usage is pretty low, but last weekend I noticed that the chrome on the old teardrops is starting to turn to rust stains after 37 years. My first question, when I thought about replacing the fixtures, was the availability of a light that was the same size and shape. Thanks for doing the research for me. I'm replacing the stern light with an LED fixture, and the cutout for the old one is huge; I'd like to patch it before I install the new light; also the new screws have nothing to bite into. I can order a 12" x 12" piece from McMaster-Carr, but if there are scraps available, I'd rather go that route. BTW, this past weekend I replaced the old below-deck "teardrop" bow lights with new LED fittings from SeaDog (part number 400080-1) <http://www.bargainboatparts.com/p-105277-sea-dog-line-led-flush-mount-side- light.aspx> -- a direct replacement for size with the old ones, and they're super-bright, as well as USCG-approved.
