Jake, Having the old stripes is key. Without them it would practically be impossible (laser levels?) I wasn't lying about four hours of taping. It takes forever. Use the best of the 3M blue tape and just move along the line. It has enough of a stretch so you can do the length of the entire side without having to break it up. The tricky part is the curve on the stern. Will take time and several pieces, but patience will yield great results. Make sure you shake up the paint a lot to thoroughly mix the polyurethane. Apply with a roller for extra smooth surfaces and follow with a foam brick to get rid of any air bubbles or imperfections. I was worried about the poly solidifying on the tape, so as soon as I was done, I pulled the tape off. As it dries, it glosses up and you find yourself staring at the hull in amazement. How did you get the tape on so straight? I'm about ready to redo my red boot stripes, but I fear that I can't tape them straight enough, even though I have the old lines to follow. Listers, This past weekend, after several years of trying product and product, I redid the Enterprise's boot stripes from their heavily faded and ugly-looking originals ( <http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PPVtbhIlO7g/UG2lYMX0jfI/AAAAAAAABm0/BmtAWuiDrUM/s 1600/spot2.JPG> see original look). And, after much deliberation and hours with Photoshop in deciding the new look, we decided on steel gray. <https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15162917/steelgraystripes.jpg> Check the finished look here. 4 hours of taping, 1 hour of painting and 15 minutes getting the tape off. What a job, but VERY happy with the finished results. Sleek as ever! So now I'm left with two unopened quarts of Brightside Red and Dark Blue. Does anyone want them? No cost -- just send me a PDF FedEx or UPS shipping label and they're yours. All the best, Edd Edd M.
