I had to cut the old hose from the old mixing elbow to get it off.....it looked like it had been expanded on that end.....it had a somewhat flared out appearance than from the muffler end....this was not the original muffler and mixing elbow I replaced today.....original owner had replaced them but I am not sure when, maybe +10 years ago. For anyone doing this yourself in the future....tip....take the whole unit off from the exhaust manifold (4 bolts) with the hose attached to the mixing elbow, no need to cut it off, but more importantly, but your new hose on the new mixing elbow will it is on the workbench, don't try to attach it after you have put it back on the manifold. Wish I had known that earlier today but hey, a rookie doing this job. Now comes the good part.....neither the muffler or mixing elbow really needed to be replaced.....they were both in really good.....I didn't know that until they were both removed and put on the workbench and cleaned up.....mixing elbow had some carbon billed up but nowhere near restricted....came out quite easily with a screw driver and a wire brush. Muffler is SS and after a cleaning with a brass brush, it looks fine. Now I have a spare muffler and mixing elbow that I will never use. I will, however, be quite happy if I live to see the new parts wear out. Rich, your grinding idea, while less expensive, is also less appealing as the least amount of time I have to spend on my left shoulder squeezed into a very confined and uncomfortable space as my engine compartment, the happier I will be.
