I don't know how you store the boat on hard, but unless you are using a mobile 
crane, you would need to move the cradle (with the boat) on a hydraulic 
trailer. This usually add another 10-12" (you need to put the cradle on wooden 
blocks in order to pick it up with a hydraulic trailer).

The cost of a cradle should not be that high. The marine Cradles (I think they 
are in Hamilton, ON or nearby) wanted around $1200 for a cradle for a 27 ft 
boat. Add some $200 to ship it to where you want it. Alternatively, a shop in 
Ottawa (in Aylmer, QC to be exact) makes very similar cradles for about $900. I 
have no clue about shipping, because he brought it on his truck for free.

In short - shop around.
