Paul,
The difference between a 24 on a 30 is striking but, on top of that, the C&C 30 
is one of the stiffest boat ever constructed by C&C. I suggest that you show 
this graph to your wife (taken from the C&c Photo Album) :

It show that the C&C 30 is beaten only by the Landfall series (and not all of 
them) and much bigger boats.  Down side of it, light winds, I've seen faster 
boats than this one in light winds.
Pay attention also to the age of the sails. Old sails that have lost their 
shape give more heel than speed. It is surprising how the heeling angle 
improves with new sails.
