Getting in VHF range of the East Coast and calling home: Father: Thank God you called. We were worried about the big storm. Are you going to get back in to Saint Georges today? Me: Saint Georges! We're making port in CAPE MAY by lunch! Father: Cape May??? How did you get there in 4 days? Me: Ever wonder how fast you can go surfing.......... :) :)

My most memorable moment in 35 years on the water was Sept 10, 2009 - driving Bojangles seaward through the harbour entrance at Port Credit Yacht Club in Toronto for the final time as we began our trip south. There's a photo of me doing this at 0:17 in the photo montage here <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0-1qIiaYno> and while I may look super serious and focused in the photo, I'm actually trying my hardest just to keep it together. In my experience, nothing compares to that moment when you untie the lines and head out.... Watch this video - in HD, with the sound cranked - and then I dare you not to start making plans to cut the lines yourself. Those rare and short lived moments can't offset the money spent or the hours of labor lost doing maintenance, the sore muscles, and aggrevation finding crew, worrying about the boat during storms, figuring out how to mix chemicals, etc. My favorite picture from last season is a photo of my son and I racing together on our boat. I like another where we each hold a trophy, won after a hard fought regatta. He was a lawyer, like me, but was doing more of a business development role there. We have a common love of all things video game related with similar backgrounds. As we were chatting about our industry and the other usual BS that goes into one of those conversations, I mentioned that if he still had the available bandwidth after the season started, the should come over to Vashon for a sail. He said he was interested and I started to talk about sailing...the sounds, the feel of the boat when it metamorphosizes from a hole in the water into a machine driven by unseen forces. Here was his response..."Tom, your whole tone totally changed when you started talking about sailing..you were calmer and seemed to be taken away to somewhere else." I cannot put a price on that....nor should I have to.
