Before taking it off, try a thin paper and do a pencil rub over the plate.
Sometimes that can produce a line or two.

Calypso was built at Bruckmann’s and was launched January 1970.  The plate in
the cockpit does not show any trace of a number from the front but I will check
the back when I pull it off to paint.

Calypso’s original transom was modified in 1974 (for better IOR rating) and a
number from RI was molded in that is now used on the state registration.  The
USCG documentation number is on a wood block just inside the companionway.

Below is some info Rob Mazza posted on the cnc-list back in Dec 2012.  I sent
this earlier with the drawings Rob included but they are held up by the
cnc-list server owing to the large size.  If you want to see the drawings check
the cnc-list archives at the web site.

Note the Marine Museum C&C Collection reference.

You refer to this boat as a C&C 25 Redline. Is this a C&C 25 or is it a Redline
25? As the drawings below show, they are distinctly different boats. I built
Redline 25s in my first summer working in the Custom Shop in 1968 before there
was even a C&C, and the cockpit drains were located in the aft cockpit bulkhead
and, if I remember correctly, drained straight out to the transom with two hose
barbs and a short piece of hose connecting them. How we managed to connect the
hose to the barbs in this tight inaccessible space, I can't remember. However,
the system was pretty straight forward, with no seacocks or gate valves,
because it was all above water. The C&C 25s had I believe conventional cockpit
drainage at the forward end of the cockpit through gate valves on thru-hull
fittings below the waterline. However, once you identify which 25 it is, I
again reiterate that all the drawings for these boats are in the C&C Collection
at the Marine Museum of the
Great Lakes at Kingston (http://www.marmuseum.ca/) , and are available for
purchase, so if there is any doubt about any feature on the boat, it can be
readily rectified.

Subject: Stus-List C&C 25 Redline Hull or HIN Number?

I have recently bought an old C&C 25 Redline. I cannot find the Hull or Hin
Number. I had assumed I would find it on the transom, but no luck. There is an
almost unreadable plate at the centre of the transom stating that the boat had
been built by Bruckman Manufacturing of Oakville Ontario . I have emailed
Bruckman Manufacturing (now of Mississauga Ontario ). Mark Bruckman replied,
but said they no longer have any records of that period. ANY HELP PLEASE!
