In 2008 Calypso was knocked down in a 48 knot gust. Water from the bilge and
some light downflooding (poor cockpit locker gaskets) made its way to the under
quarterberth lockers. The limber hole's positions allow some salt water to
remain. I suspect 43 years of paint and debris accumulation also blocked some
of the holes.

Fortunately this happened on the last race of the year and the water was found
in during the end-of-season deep clean. I did have to soak the spare steering
cable and chain to remove surface rust and toss out a few less robust items
that were not water resistant.

Joel,

There is a small storage area immediately aft of the battery compartment in the
quarter berth. I used to keep my cockpit table in there along with the storm
jib (two infrequently used items while racing). Unfortunately, if any way
comes in from leaving the quarterberth port open, it will accumulate in this
storage area. It’s small, but useful. It would be easy to add a drain into
the bilge (I think).

Will do! Probably a good thing I decided to refinish the cabin sole - I
avoided bigger problems in a few years.
Storage area at the back of the quarterberth? Didn't know there was one. I'll
have to pull out the cushion.
The port setee drains- if you heel enough! Since I had my windows replaced it
has not been an issue. That "should" be an easy drain to add.
